De Rosario powers TFC to home win over Seattle

04/25/2010 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Toronto FC topped Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 in Major League Soccer action at BMO Field on Sunday afternoon.

Dwayne De Rosario scored a goal and added an assist to lead his team to the home victory.

After the teams battled to an uneventful first half in the cold and rainy conditions, De Rosario took advantage of a mistake by the Seattle defense to give the Reds a 1-0 advantage just before the hour mark.

TFC forward Chad Barrett controlled the ball on the left side, but his cross into the middle deflected off the referee right to Sounders defender Osvaldo Alonso. Alonso then took a couple touches instead of playing the ball out of danger, which allowed De Rosario to steal it and fire past goalkeeper Kasey Keller for the game's first goal.

It was De Rosario's fifth goal of the season. The Toronto native accounted for all five goals scored by the Reds in 2010 up to that point.

De Rosario was instrumental in helping set up the insurance goal just under 20 minutes later with the Sounders pushing for the equalizer.

Sounders defender Tyrone Marshall had the miscue on this tally, turning the ball over at midfield with his team pushing forward. The resulting counter attack by TFC found De Rosario on the right side and he played a ball into the middle to O'Brien White. White found himself alone in the area and he easily slotted the chance past Keller for the 2-0 advantage.

It was the first time in the brief history of Seattle Sounders FC that the second-year MLS club has given up multiple goals in consecutive games.

Seattle (2-2-2) will head home on Saturday to play Columbus after the disappointing two-game road trip resulted in just one point this week. Toronto (2-3-0) plays at defending MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake the same day in its next MLS fixture.
