Hornets' Paul likely to need knee surgery

02/01/2010 - New Orleans, LA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul had his injured left knee examined by team doctors and will likely need surgery.

Hornets coach Jeff Bower said the team is still reviewing the test results and a decision on whether Paul undergoes surgery will be determined once specialists can make their evaluations.

"It's likely there is going to be a surgical procedure," Bower said Monday. "We are in the fact-finding stages right now, gathering as much information as possible."

Bower said a surgical decision would likely take place in the next day or two, and added that a timetable for Paul's return is indefinite. It has been speculated that Paul could be sidelined for at least a month if surgery is required.

Paul apparently initially twisted his knee during Wednesday's game against Golden State, then hurt it further on Friday against Chicago while trying to save a ball from going out of bounds. He sat out Saturday's contest against Memphis.

Recently selected for his third All-Star Game, Paul is averaging a team-best 20.4 points and a league-high 11.2 assists per game this season. He also missed eight games earlier this season with an ankle injury.
